Prevent Blindness Honors Kurt Lewis and UnitedHealthcare of Ohio
with the Miami Valley 2023 People of Vision Award
February 22, 2023 (Kettering, OH) The Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness was proud to honor Kurt Lewis and UnitedHealthcare of Ohio at a luncheon event at NCR Country Club in Kettering.
Since 1985, The Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness (PBO) has recognized and awarded select organizations and their leaders for visionary leadership and community service. The People of Vision Award event has become one of the Miami Valley’s premier charitable events in support of PBO and its mission to prevent blindness and preserve sight.
As last year’s honoree, Scott McGohan and McGohan Brabender chaired the event and presented the 2023 award to Kurt Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, UnitedHealthcare of Ohio. McGohan asked that we join in celebrating Lewis and UnitedHealthcare of Ohio for their dedication to helping people live healthier lives. In addition to ensuring community members live healthy lives, UnitedHealthcare of Ohio gives back to the community through an array of programs. The PLAYMAKERS program aims to improve health and happiness by promoting physical activity and active play at schools across Ohio. UnitedHealthcare of Ohio also has a generous grants program that has provided funding to Prevent Blindness and many other organizations to help improve the everyday health of our communities.
“At UnitedHealthcare of Ohio, we are dedicated to helping people live healthier lives and making the health system work better for everyone. We try hard to make a strong commitment to support the communities we serve, so the relationship that we have with Prevent Blindness is another important example of how we can fulfill our mission in the Miami Valley,” Lewis said.
“Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate is proud to honor Kurt Lewis and UnitedHealthcare of Ohio with the 2023 Miami Valley People of Vision Award,” Amy Pulles, President and CEO of the Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness stated, “and we look forward to them chairing the event next year.”
Half of all blindness is preventable, and the number of individuals who are blind or visually impaired is expected to double by the year 2030 if nothing is done to address the problem. Furthermore, it is estimated that the economic impact of visual disorders and disabilities costs approximately $6 billion annually in Ohio.
