Prevent Blindness Ohio Honors Steve Spray and The Cincinnati Insurance Companies with the Southwest Ohio
2024 People of Vision Award

March 14, 2024 (Cincinnati, OH) – Prevent Blindness Ohio was proud to honor Steve Spray, President, The Cincinnati Insurance Companies, at a luncheon event at The Cintas Center in Cincinnati.

Since 1985, Prevent Blindness Ohio (PBO) has recognized and awarded select organizations and their leaders for visionary leadership and community service. The People of Vision Celebration has become one of Southwest Ohio’s premier charitable events in support of PBO and its mission to prevent blindness and preserve sight.

Longtime PBO board member and past Cincinnati Insurance Chief Executive Officer Ken Stecher presented the 2024 award and asked all to join in celebrating Spray and Cincinnati Insurance for their extensive support in the Southwest Ohio community, including their longtime relationship with, and far-reaching support of, Prevent Blindness Ohio.

Spray described the set of values set forth by Cincinnati Insurance that they call “The Cincinnati Ethic,” which reminds everyone that the little things can make a big difference. Spray continued by emphasizing the early detection programs of Prevent Blindness and how they also show the power of ‘little’ things. “Catching a change in your vision sooner than later may not seem like a big thing. However, PBO understands that some eye diseases show no symptoms in their early stages and only an eye doctor can identify them,” he explained.

PBO also took the opportunity to recognize Butler County Educational Service Center Success Program with the Community Partner in Vision Award, for their critical role in bringing vision care to medically underserved areas in Southwest Ohio.

“Prevent Blindness Ohio is proud to honor Steve Spray with the 2024 Southwest Ohio People of Vision Award and Butler County Educational Service Center Success Program as a Community Partner in Vision,” Amy Pulles, President and CEO of Prevent Blindness Ohio, stated. “Half of all blindness is preventable, and the number of individuals who are blind or visually impaired is expected to continue to grow exponentially if nothing is done to address the problem. Furthermore, it is estimated that the economic impact of visual disorders and disabilities costs approximately $6.1 billion annually in Ohio,” she explained.
