Prevent Blindness Receives $3,645 Donation from Dragon Lights Columbus Festival

COLUMBUS, OH (March 4,  2019) – The Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness and the Dragon Lights Columbus Festival partnered for the second year to bring awareness to the gift of sight as it related to the visual beauty of the Dragon Lights Columbus Festival event. Prevent Blindness received a $3,645 donation from Dragon Lights Columbus’ to continue its philanthropic efforts in expanding sight saving programming across the state.

The Festival ran from November 23, 2018 to January 6, 2019, and featured 35 larger-than-life illuminated displays crafted by Chinese artisans experienced in the ancient art of lantern making.

During the event, Prevent Blindness had the opportunity to serve guests by offering a free adult vision screening to help detect early eye problems. The visions screening also included an adult vision risk assessment, to determine whether an individual is at risk for age-related eye disease.

“Thanks to our partnership with the Dragon Lights Columbus Festival, Prevent Blindness will be able to vision screen more adults and children to find individuals at risk for vision loss and help them access professional eye exams.  50% of vision loss is preventable through early detection and treatment”, says Sherry Williams, President & CEO of the Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness.

Prevent Blindness impacts more than 1,000,000 Ohioans annually through sight-saving programs such as vision screenings, vision education and research, advocacy to increase public access to vision care and operation of a statewide virtual free clinic that provides access to eye exams and eyeglasses for the needy.
