Prevent Blindness Honors Kim Riley and Hylant-Cleveland
with Northeast Ohio 2023 People of Vision Award

February 13, 2023 (Cleveland, OH) The Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness was proud to honor Kim Riley and Hylant-Cleveland at a dinner event at Windows on the River  in Cleveland.

Since 1985, The Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness (PBO) has recognized and awarded select organizations and their leaders for visionary leadership and community service. The People of Vision Award event has become one of Northeast Ohio’s premier charitable events in support of PBO and its mission to prevent blindness and preserve sight.

As last year’s honoree, Gareth Vaughan and AMHigley hosted the event and presented the 2023 award to Kim Riley, Hylant-Cleveland’s Chief Operating Officer-Northeast Region. Vaughan asked that we join in celebrating Riley and Hylant-Cleveland for their extensive support in the Northeast Ohio community, including Riley’s commitments and leadership roles in The American Red Cross, Destination Cleveland, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Northeast Ohio Bank Advisory Board, S&T Bank, Team NEO and the Business Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

“As members of a community, we have a responsibility to give back to those around us. Whether it’s volunteering our time, making a financial donation, or simply being a good neighbor. There are countless ways that we can make a positive impact on the people and places we call home,” Riley said upon accepting the award. “And I want to touch on the importance of preventing blindness. Blindness is a devastating condition that affects millions of people around the world. By working to prevent blindness, we can ensure that more people are able to live full and productive lives. Whether it’s through education and research, or simply providing support to those in need, we have a responsibility to make a difference in the lives of those affected by blindness,” she said.

“Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate is proud to honor Hylant-Cleveland with the 2023 Northeast Ohio People of Vision Award,” Amy Pulles, President and CEO of the Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness stated, “and we look forward to them chairing the event next year.”

Half of all blindness is preventable, and the number of individuals who are blind or visually impaired is expected to double by the year 2030 if nothing is done to address the problem. Furthermore, it is estimated that the economic impact of visual disorders and disabilities costs approximately $5.4 billion annually in Ohio.
