Prevent Blindness Partners with the Dragon Lights Columbus Festival

COLUMBUS (Dec. 3, 2018) – Prevent Blindness is partnering with the Dragon Lights Columbus Festival to bring public awareness to the gift of sight as it relates to the visual beauty of this event. The Festival features 35 larger-than-life illuminated displayed crafted by Chinese artisans experienced in the ancient art of lantern-making.

The Festival is open Tuesday through Sunday, 5:30 pm- 10:00 pm at the Ohio State Expo Center Natural Resources Park through January 6, 2019.  In addition to lanterns, nightly performances and handicrafts, the event also offers food and beverages.

The Festival will donate .5% of net ticket proceeds for the entire run of the event to support the sight saving programs of Prevent Blindness which serve more than 1,000,000 Ohioans annually through vision screenings, vision education and research, advocacy to increase public access to vision care and operation of a statewide virtual free clinic that provides access to eye exams and eyeglasses for the needy.

“The Dragon Lights Columbus Festival is a very visual show, from the thousand pieces of handcrafted lantern displays to the stunning stage performances. We hope more people will be able to enjoy this visual experience and that’s why we chose to make a donation to the Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness, an organization that does so much to preserve the gift of sight,” said Huiyuan Liu, Event Manager.

Prevent Blindness will offer free adult vision screenings at the Dragon Lights Columbus Festival on Friday, December 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The screening will be held within the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio State Expo Center and Fairgrounds, located at 717 E 17th Ave, Columbus, OH 43211.  A vision screening helps detect early eye problems and consist of an adult vision risk assessment, near and distance visual acuity screening, detailed information on “aging eye” diseases and disorders and  follow up care for referrals.

“We are pleased to collaborate with the Dragon Lights Columbus Festival and provide its patrons with services that can help them enjoy good sight for life,” said Sherry Williams, President and CEO of the Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness.
