Prevent Blindness Ohio Trains Vision Screening Volunteers

COLUMBUS, OH (July 1, 2013) –Prevent Blindness Ohio held a vision screening training on June 25 at the Columbus Health Department. Volunteers were trained and certified to conduct adult vision screenings that help detect early vision problems. Screenings are an effective way to refer individuals that need professional care to an eye doctor for a comprehensive eye exam.

 

Honorary Board Member of Prevent Blindness Ohio and Former Ohio First Lady, Hope Taft was among the volunteers that were trained and certified as Prevent Blindness Ohio vision screeners. The training was sponsored by Essilor of America.

 

Prevent Blindness Ohio’s adult vision program provides volunteers with the proper tools to help screen for early detection of eye problems. Trainings offer instructions on how to conduct an adult vision risk assessment, perform near and distance visual acuity screening, detailed information on aging eye diseases and disorders, follow up care for referrals, and educational resources and access to vision screening charts.
