The National Academy of Sciences reports that in the next ten years as the baby boomers age and retire, scientific research fields, including vision research, stand to lose over 50% of their scientists. While the number of aging eye diseases is expected to double in the next 20 years, the need for research to find the causes of and cures for vision loss has never been greater. Over 2.5 million Ohioans will be at risk for vision loss from age-related macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy by 2030 unless their disease is diagnosed and treated early.
There are numerous clinical studies underway studying the causes of and treatments for a variety of eye diseases. Find the latest list of clinical trials recruiting patients by going to clinicaltrials.gov.
